<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sadio Mané: A Champion On and Off the Pitch</h2>



Life wasn’t always easy for Sadio Mané. Born in Bambali to Guinean parents, Mané always dreamt of one day becoming a professional footballer, despite his father discouraging him from playing the game to focus on his studies.



Even so, the dream of becoming a professional footballer remained stronger than the obstacles in his path. Years after his father passed away, Mané ran away from home at a young age to chase his dream, a gamble that would eventually pay off. He was signed by Generation Foot and quickly caught the attention of European teams. Thus began his <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/reasons-move-to-another-country/">journey of plying his trade abroad</a> and helping his family back home as so many migrants do.



He moved to France to play for Metz, where he impressed in his first few months on the continent, switching to Red Bull Salzburg in Austria and to Southampton in the English Premier League a couple of years later.



From there, he would move up north and sign with legendary club Liverpool, where major success began to roll in – in large part thanks to Mané’s unrelenting work rate, which paired with his natural football abilities in the left winger position made for a lethal on-pitch combination.



It was at Liverpool where Sadio Mané began to cement his greatness as one of the world’s best players, even managing to finish runner-up at the prestigious Ballon d’Or in 2022 – the second African player to make it to the podium after 1995 winner George Weah. His current club is Al-Nassr, where he’s been since 2023.



Though Mané has Guinean roots, he opted to represent Senegal internationally, racking up 124 appearances and becoming the country’s top scorer with 52 goals. He has led the Lions of Teranga to glory by winning the AFCON and is set to lead them onto the world’s biggest stage this summer.

But for Sadio Mané, success goes beyond the pitch. For years, the footballer has been using his money to reinvest back into his home community in Senegal. This past 2024, we continued our work in early childhood education <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/ria-money-transfer-save-the-children-partnership-renewal-2024/">supporting Save the Children projects</a> in Mexico and the Philippines, both of which are now entering their third year. Through these initiatives, Ria provides funding to develop learning materials for children, teachers, and caregivers. In October of 2024, part of our team visited several education centers in Mexico City, reinforcing our commitment in areas where even remittances can’t reach.



We also continued our work with our <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/villa-de-los-sonadores-project-atletico-de-madrid/">Dreamers’ Schools</a> and Villages in <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/sri-lanka-shanu-foundation-partnership/">Sri Lanka</a>, Morocco and <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/dreamers-village-project-senegal-morocco-mauritius/">Senegal</a>, the latter two in collaboration with our partner <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/ria-money-transfer-inter-milan-never-far-away-campaign/">Internazionale Milano</a>. Alongside Inter, we also participated in the launch of Inter Academy Chile, offering 15 scholarships through the Gol de Oro foundation to children from vulnerable communities.



As of today, more than one hundred children are benefiting directly from our Ria-funded schools, which is one way to measure the incredible impact our initiatives have on people’s lives.



<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our CSR Initiatives for Emergency and Disaster Relief</h2>



Beyond the realm of education, we’ve also extended a helping hand in various emergency relief initiatives, particularly for the devastating floods in <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/brazil-floods-rio-grande-do-sul-2024/">Brazil</a>, Nepal and Spain. As we’ve been doing for many years, <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/ria-csr-impact-report-2023">we partnered with TeletonUSA</a> and Teletón El Salvador to raise funds for children with disabilities so they <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/the-world-we-share-meet-isaac-and-alejandra/">can receive the rehabilitation therapy they need</a>.



In every corner of the world, our local offices joined in on a myriad of community service initiatives, from releasing baby turtles in El Salvador to organizing food drives in South Africa.

In 2020, we underwent a global rebranding to communicate our intention to double down on our commitment to our customers. With the help of Saffron Brand Consultants, we redesigned our logo to reflect our purpose to open ways for a better everyday life.&nbsp;



We lowercased the R to make it appear as if the R and A are hugging the I, which represents our customer. Thus, our logo communicates how Ria has its customer’s back and places them at the center of its operations.&nbsp;

Unveiling Ria’s new tagline: Money where you need it

Since Monday, April 29, 2024, Brazil’s southern Rio Grande do Sul province has been suffering from widespread flooding. At the time of writing, more than 580,000 people have been displaced and over 68,000 remain in shelters. From everyone at Ria, we would like to express our condolences to our Brazilian colleagues, family, friends, and customers who are currently experiencing hardships as result of this natural disaster.&nbsp;&nbsp;



In response, we are launching a new zero-fee campaign that will enable our customers to support Brazilian communities during these difficult times.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Having previously supported emergency relief efforts in Mexico and Morocco, we understand the devastating toll natural disasters can have on local communities. At the time of writing, more than two million people have been affected by the floods with more than 150 people tragically losing their lives.&nbsp;&nbsp;



The disaster has also crippled the region’s infrastructure. In Porto Alegre, the state’s capital, more than 40 neighborhoods were flooded, and even unaffected areas endured days without electricity and access to drinking water. With the main airport closed and many roads and rail networks underwater, some locations are now only accessible by helicopter.&nbsp;&nbsp;



Given the extent of the devastation, the road to recovery will undoubtedly be a long and difficult one. At Ria, we’re celebrating our one-year anniversary as <a href="https://www.euronetworldwide.com/use-cases/ria-to-sponsor-fc-internazionale-milano/">Inter’s Official Money Transfer Partner</a>. To do so, we set out to create a powerful spot highlighting the best qualities we share with one another.



&#8220;Never Far Away&#8221; tells the story of found family and how important it is to stay connected to our loved ones, even when you’re far away. The tale is a simple yet universal one. It showcases the power football and <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/remittances-growth-in-the-face-of-global-challenges/">money transfers</a> have to bring people together no matter the distance.



The video follows Anuar, María, Moussa and Irina, four migrants from vastly diverse backgrounds but who are connected by a common goal: helping the people they care for the most.



We follow Moussa, a care worker who always makes time to speak with his family despite his exhaustion from working all day. No matter how tired he may be, he makes sure his love and devotion are felt by his family.



María works as a seamstress so she can provide for her mom back home. Food always brought her family together, so she makes sure to pour into her work the same love her mom put into her recipes.



Anuar, an electrician, <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/stay-connected-with-family-abroad/">wishes he could be celebrating the festivities with his family</a>, but he knows how his hard work will pay off. By working abroad, he can send money back to his son so he can have the life he really deserves.



For Irina, a customer service rep at Ria, knowing her brother is alright is all that matters. Working hard to provide for him is all the motivation she needs to patiently wait for the day she can hug him again.

Through our sponsorship of <a href="https://www.savethechildren.org/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Save the Children</a>’s project we are able to drive positive change for vulnerable children, providing them with the tools they need to build a better future. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">“Learning, Educating, and Advocating for the Future by Children” project in the Philippines&nbsp;</h2>



After the success of last year’s project “SEED” (“Sustainable Early Education and Development for Children”), we are continuing our sponsorship in the Antipolo region in the Philippines with SEED’s evolution, project “LEAF” (“Learning, Educating, and Advocating for the Future (LEAF) by Children”).&nbsp;



The project aims to improve early childhood care and development, raise awareness about the region’s climate crisis, and empower children to actively participate in disaster risk reduction efforts.&nbsp;



The Philippines ranks first in the <a href="https://weltrisikobericht.de/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/WRR_2023_english_online161023.pdf" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">World Risk Index 2023</a>, and is increasingly experiencing unprecedented high temperatures, rainfalls and extreme weather events that are disrupting the everyday life of the community. The ones suffering the most from the environmental crisis in Antipolo are the most vulnerable groups in the city. Children with disabilities are facing greater barriers to access essential services, and indigenous peoples are witnessing the erosion of their cultural heritage, like the disappearance of animal species and herbal medicines.&nbsp;&nbsp;



For these reasons, Save the Children saw the urgency of empowering children in these communities to bolster their resilience, and we jumped at the opportunity to help. Thanks to this partnership, we can safeguard hundreds of children, boosting emergency and disaster preparedness in schools and the whole Antipolo community. &nbsp;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">“Early Childhood Education” project in Mexico City and State of Mexico&nbsp;</h2>



For the third consecutive year, we are renewing <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/ria-money-transfer-save-the-children-partnership-results-2022/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">our commitment to the local community in Mexico</a> by funding Save the Children’s “Early Childhood Education” project. This sponsorship will ensure access to quality education for preschool children from vulnerable families in the area.&nbsp;



Receiving the support and care they need in their early years can greatly impact children&#8217;s futures, improving their wellbeing and chances for success. This is something we are well aware of, as our customers often use our services to <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/impact-of-money-on-childrens-development/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">send money back home for the education</a> of the kids in their families and communities.   



This year, the project will benefit 1200 vulnerable children attending Community Child Development Centers (CCDICs), educational and protective spaces in low-income neighborhoods where infants and children between 45 days and 6 years old receive early childhood and preschool education. The families that rely on these centers lack access to social security and the resources to pay for private childcare. Without this program, the families would be forced to leave their kids alone at home when they leave for work. In a region where a big portion of <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/learning-poverty-is-getting-worse-what-can-we-do-about-it/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">the population lives in poverty and even extreme poverty</a>, the CCDICs and Save the Children offer much-needed relief.&nbsp;&nbsp;



Through our sponsorship, children will be welcomed into safe spaces and receive the quality education and learning materials they need to grow up healthy, safe, and well cared for. Teachers will also be trained and provided with lesson plans and resources. &nbsp;

How Our CSR Initiatives Are Transforming Communities: Ria’s 2023 Impact Report 

In 2021, together with <a href="https://www.atleticodemadrid.com/atm/fundacion-atletico-de-madrid" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Fundación Atlético de Madrid</a>, we launched the <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/villa-de-los-sonadores-project-atletico-de-madrid/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">project “La Villa de los Soñadores”</a> in Alcalá de Henares, Spain, with the goal to improve children’s learning opportunities and positively impact their physical, mental, emotional, and social growth through sports.&nbsp;&nbsp;



After the success of the project in Spain, we decided to expand and dream even bigger. We are now incredibly proud to announce the successful launch of the “Dreamers Village” project, through which we plan to positively impact the lives of children in multiple African countries in collaboration with our sponsored football clubs <a href="https://www.inter.it/en" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Inter Milan</a> and <a href="https://www.atleticodemadrid.com/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Atlético de Madrid</a>.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is the Dreamers Village project about?&nbsp;</h2>



Building on, and inspired by, the successful model we employed in the Villa de los Soñadores football school in Spain, we joined forces with local partners in Morocco, Senegal, and Mauritius to provide a fun and educational experience for 180 local boys and girls between 9 and 14 years old. Twice each week, students will train in top local facilities under the guidance of expert coaches to enjoy football while developing physical, emotional, and mental skills in a safe environment. As they learn to play football, kids who participate in the Dreamers Village project will also take part in activities that will teach them important values like friendship, respect, and teamwork, and help them develop lifelong qualities like self-confidence and perseverance. Two knowledgeable coaches were hired in each of the schools to train and care for the children throughout the experience.&nbsp;



Just like for the original project in Spain, we invited children from areas and families with limited economic resources to participate, and their excitement for the project was clearly visible when they joined us for the opening events.&nbsp;&nbsp;

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Opening events in Morocco, Senegal, and Mauritius&nbsp;</h2>



To officially launch the schools’ activities, in October and November we participated in the kickoff events in Rabat, Dakar, and Mauritius. We were joined by local leaders, valued partners, football clubs Inter Milan and Atlético de Madrid, the students, and their families to celebrate the start of the project. During the events, the walls of the three football facilities were decorated with mural paintings by local urban artists, and local music groups animated the day with rhythm, dances and activities specifically targeted to children.&nbsp;



Among the speakers at the event were Malick Seck, Managing Director Africa at Ria Money Transfer, José Cabral, VP Europe and Middle East at Ria Money Transfer, Sébastien Frey, former professional footballer at Inter Milan, Mustapha Orbaia, Vice President of the Youssoufia district council, Sofie Camara, Second Mayor of the municipal district of Parcelles Assainies, and Kalicharan Somaroo, President of District Council de Pamplemousses.&nbsp;



“With our participation in projects like these, Ria is consistently showing that we are involved in our communities’ wellbeing. <h2 class="wp-block-heading">Our Corporate Social Responsibility work&nbsp;</h2>



Two important beliefs guide the work that we do with our <a href="https://www.riamoneytransfer.com/en/blog/what-is-csr-corporate-social-responsibility/" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Corporate Social Responsibility</a> partners around the world. One is that every child deserves the opportunity to learn and grow up in a safe and supportive environment, no matter where they are from. The other is that sport naturally creates a strong bond and a sense of camaraderie that transcends cultural and linguistic differences as teams strive to achieve a shared goal.&nbsp;&nbsp;
